Three Things I Learned about Sports Betting

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

I've mentioned before in this blog that I am not a sports fan, and neither is my husband. However, we did decide a few months ago to take our chances and make some wagers on sportsbooks to hopefully win some money. For knowing very little about sports, we didn't do too bad on the outcome of our wagers. During the experience, we did learn a few lessons that we have put to use in current gambling ventures. I'd like to share those lessons with you as suggestions to help you if you're a beginner in the sport betting world.
Manage Your Money Wisely

We didn't have a lot of money to use for betting when we first started. We took some of the extra money we had after we paid our bills and placed some wagers. The excitement overcame us, however, and we used some of the money we had set aside for next month's bills for more wagers. Luckily, we didn't lose that money because we made winning wagers. We were very worried after placing the bets, though. After that, we never bet more money than we could afford to lose.
Follow Your Team and Sport Closely

Managers of sportsbooks cannot take the time to follow any one sport or team very closely. As such, it's up to you. After all, it's your money so it's your responsibility to know whom you're betting on. Follow your favorite teams closely for a few games to make a good estimation on how they will perform. This will help you decide your wager.
Choose the Home Team

If you have any question between two teams, always bet on the team playing at home. Even underdogs have a better chance of winning in front of a hometown crowd, so keep this in mind if you're unsure of which team to place your money on.
