A little light in a dark room is better than without. It is hope when it is seen at the end of a tunnel even if it is as small as nickel. Today, table lamps are very useful in the house, not only for display but for selective lighting. In a bedroom, for example, one may still want to read before finally sleeping while the other wants the room dim (unless that person can actually sleep when the ceiling light is on). It may be a matter of preference but it still solves certain problems.
Selective lighting also saves on energy. Instead of lighting the whole room, you only give light to something that needs lighting. It can also be a source of lighting display that sets the mood of the people who are actually seeing the table lamp. Although they have been existing for long, modern table lamps have evolved to meet the design preference of people who likes to live in a modern ambiance.
Be very careful, though, where you put your lamps especially when you have children with you at home. Teach them how to care for it and how the lamp should be handled to avoid or minimize accidents in the future.
